What actually matters when you are choosing, and what is marketing noise.
Pick the format before the brand
Cordless sticks are now good enough to be a primary vacuum in most homes, and the convenience means they get used more often, which matters more than peak performance. Canisters and uprights still win on deep carpet and on filtration.
Robots are a supplement, not a replacement. They keep floors tidy day to day; they do not deep-clean carpet.
Sealed filtration is what stops dust coming back out
A HEPA filter only helps if all the air passes through it. Many vacuums have a HEPA-rated filter and an unsealed body, so fine dust escapes around joints and out of the exhaust.
Look for the phrase whole-machine or fully sealed filtration. If you have allergies, this specification matters more than suction.
Batteries are the wear item on cordless vacuums
Lithium cells degrade. After three or four years of regular use a cordless vacuum will run noticeably shorter than when new, and that is normal rather than a fault.
